I’m a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund, helping university students to improve their writing. I also teach non-fiction and life-writing courses at the Arvon Foundation and UAL, and hold writing workshops for various organisations – from schools and festivals to businesses and community groups.
Each summer I run the Wild Writing Weekend with fellow author/adventurer, Ants Bolingbroke-Kent, and in 2026, Ants and I launched Write with Orwell, a 5-day residential non-fiction course on the Scottish Isle of Jura, in the house where George Orwell wrote 1984.

Memoir & Life-Writing, London
Join me for a two-day course at The University of the Arts (UAL) in London’s buzzing Kings Cross district. This course is short, but action packed. We’ll cover story structure, beginnings and endings, voice, dialogue and how to bring your real-life characters alive, before rounding up with some quick ‘n’ dirty editing tips. By the end you’ll have a short story and the skills to get going on that memoir.
