I’m a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund, helping university students to improve their writing. I also teach non-fiction and life-writing courses at the Arvon Foundation and UAL, and hold writing workshops for various organisations – from schools and festivals to businesses and community groups.
Each summer I run the Wild Writing Weekend with fellow author/adventurer, Ants Bolingbroke-Kent. New for 2026, Ants and I are thrilled to offer Write with Orwell, a 5-day residential non-fiction course on the Scottish Isle of Jura, in the house where George Orwell wrote 1984.

Write with Orwell on the Isle of Jura
Ants Bolingbroke-Kent and I are thrilled to host this 5-day non-fiction course on the Scottish Isle of Jura, in the house where George Orwell wrote his masterpiece, 1984. This is a rare coup – the house is privately owned and not rented out to the public.
